The KISS project is a community art project held in the centre of Heerlen enabling residents or visitors of the city to show their affection for the city. The event included a range of activities and exhibitions centered around the theme of kissing.  Visitors of the event could contribute their kiss in the form of a picture or video and upload it at various bluetooth and wifi enabled nodes throughout the city to a community website.

A series of user interviews with local residents and a thorough exploration of the city’s cultural hotspots and ‘dead zones’ led to the establishment of design requirements that helped conceptualize and implement the final product.

The project’s goals were

  • • Enabling newly established serendipitous friendships by bringing individuals and groups in contact with each another.
  • • Creating awareness of various cultural institutions in the city
  • • Promote the city centre of Heerlen as a lively (shopping) area
  • • Emphasizing the Euregional character of the city.

The Kiss concept and community website was established in collaboration with Richard Benning and Rik Jurjens.
